The history of Coley Toxins demonstrates that cancer can be cured by a treatment that stimulates the immune system. However, once again there are four possibilities: all properly stimulated immune systems can cure all cancers; all properly stimulated immune systems can cure some cancers; some properly stimulated immune systems can cure all cancers; or, some properly stimulated immune systems can cure some cancers. One of these propositions is true. Which one ? We don't know.
SPONTANEOUS REGRESSION: CANCER AND THE IMMUNE SYSTEM
A new release on a complicated subject, by Ontario biotechnology executive Donald MacAdam, had me repeatedly thinking –“that makes sense" Spontaneous Regression: Cancer and the Immune System is a thought-provoking read.
The highly interesting book begins with a brief history of one man's- - Dr. William Coley's - work and theories in the last century on how to kill cancer by activating the immune system via infectious agents. It gives an overview of how over the decades we have progressed, or to a certain degree regressed, in our treatment of cancer.
Although in the beginning of the book many of the cases are anecdotal and antiquated, MacAdam does then dwelve deeper into more current research and hacks it up with a plentiful list of excellent references.
The book discusses the role that viruses, bacteria and genetic susceptibility play in the development and, more importantly, the regression of cancer. Numerous cases of spontaneous regression of cancer are discussed. The overall message is how incredibly powerful and innately intelligent the immune system is, and how immunotherapies can actually cure cancer, not just put it into remission or in hiding, only to reappear later.
The book has been written in such a way that it may be understood by both those educated in health care as well as the lay person. It will be especially appreciated by those who have an interest in the topic of cancer and the immune system.
Published by Xlibris, the book is available at stores or through online sellers.•
